Gas line rupture in Mount Maunganui

A gas man has ruptured in a Mount Maunganui residential area.

A fire communications spokesman said the rupture was at 437 Maunganui Rd.

Two fire service units were at the scene, keeping it safe until the gas authority arrived to turn the gas off.

A reporter at the scene said a builder constructing a deck had clipped the gas line.

The hazmat unit was also on its way to the scene.

Police were there to assist with traffic control.
