A man has been arrested after a manhunt through Tauranga south this afternoon.

A Police northern communications spokesman said a pursuit took place about 2.16pm after a vehicle was believed to be tailgating another car and crossing the centre line.

Police followed the car.

The spokesman said it was believed the car had stolen plates and could have been involved with petrol drive offs.

The chase ended in Simmonds Gr, Greerton, where the driver fled on foot.

A man was later caught by police with the help of dogs. He was currently in custody and being processed.
