Council staff from the Maritime and Pollution Prevention team responded and removed the oily flotsam/jetsam and sea grass.

A visual inspection of shorelines around Ferguson Park and Pilot Bay were also undertaken to ensure debris had not been carried outside the port area.

No further debris was evident.

The council has now commenced an investigation to ascertain the source of this debris.

As people are out enjoying the Harbour this weekend, council has asked that when debris was sighted, it was reported to the Regional Council's Pollution Prevention Hotline, phone 0800 884 883, or email info@boprc.govt.nz.
