Gail McIntosh said she was a bit worried that the new council was too conservative for her. "I am a more progressive person... I hope that we will all work as a team, without A and B teams.''
Bill Grainger thought they would blend in well. "It's great to have Max [Mason] in there. Altogether, we have a pretty good team."
Leanne Brown believed it was slightly more conservative with the return of the older councillors. "It is up to us to focus on going forward."
Terry Molloy, a new face who had served on two previous councils, said he did not go along with comments that the older guard was back.
"I have been accused of being conservative, but I don't believe I am... I want to see the city up and flying, it will be a progressive council."
Larry Baldock, the other new face who had been on previous councils, said he wanted a council that got things done. "I am looking to the mayor to give us leadership and direction... I don't plan to hold back and be nice."
Mr Mason said the new council had a good balance. While he believed there was a conservative feeling, there was a sense of new ideas as well. "There is a progressive side to the council and I put myself in that camp."
Kelvin Clout said in his view it would be conservative but believed the councillors would get on well together.
"I believe the council wanted to be more vibrant and youthful in attitude, but the voters did not vote that way. I believe there will probably be more openness and transparency, which is a good thing on balance."
Catherine Stewart said that overall the council was a good mix, with Max Mason bringing a business perspective. ''I am looking forward to working with the group in a collaborative manner.''
Rick Curach said his impression was that it would be a business-as-usual council. There would be no significant changes in terms of being progressive rather than conservative.
''I don't think there will be shift to a more progressive or a more conservative council.''
He said he had worked with Mr Baldock and Mr Molloy on previous councils and knew what made them tick.
