Armed police have blocked off a section of residential Tauranga as a raid gets underway in Bureta this morning.

A heavy police presence which includes armed officers and police dogs have cordoned off a section of Ngatai Rd, near the Chapel St end, since about 9am.

Detective Senior Sergeant to the Bay of Plenty Times the search warrant was in relation to a clan lab, and was made with assistance from specialist groups including the Armed Offender Squad.

''A scene examination will take place throughout the dat and police are continuing to speak with two occupants of the house,'' Mr Turner said.

A reporter at the scene said the fire service Hazmat unit could be seen and police were not letting anyone through the blocked off area.

A Countdown Bureta staff member said the emergency services had stationed themselves at the supermarket for about an hour before moving on.
