Earthquakes have been felt through the Bay of Plenty overnight, after two hit near White Island this morning.
The first earthquake struck 15kms south of White Island at 3.43am a depth of 10km. It reached a light magnitude level of 3.3.
It was followed by a second at 4.03am 15km south-east of White Island at a depth of 10km. This was also a light quake, measuring a magnitude of 3.1.
The quakes come after a series gently rattled parts of the wider Bay yesterday, including Murupapa, south of Rotorua, about 12pm and another early morning shake at White Island.
