The Mauao base track is now open.

The Pumicelands Rural Fire Authority is satisfied that the fire on the mountain has been extinguished.

The upper tracks and summit will remain closed and security will remain onsite until at least 5pm this afternoon while geologists and abseilers continue their stability investigations.

Geologists will return early next week to complete their investigations and assessments.

The Waikorire track will remain closed until this work is completed.

It is likely that the majority of Mauao's walking tracks (everything other than Waikorire) will reopen from 5pm this afternoon.
