Crash cuts power in Tauranga

Power has been cut to homes in Welcome Bay as emergency services attend a crash.

Residents in Kaitemako Rd said they saw their power lines spark and explode before a deep boom was heard about 9.45pm.

Several fire trucks, police and ambulance units are at the scene near the top of the road.

It is understood at least one person has been taken to Tauranga Hospital.

Drivers are being diverted away from the scene.
