A doctor who wrote herself prescriptions for controlled drugs and who was also convicted of drink-driving has been censured, suspended from practising for three months and banned from prescribing controlled drugs for two years.
The doctor, known as Dr Y due to name suppression orders, came before the Health Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal in Tauranga on June 18 charged with professional misconduct and having a conviction.
Dr Y wrote prescriptions for herself using patients' names for the controlled drugs codeine, Oxynorm, Sevredol and M-Elson, all of which are opioid analgesics.
Dr Y had two drink driving convictions.
In his ruling, tribunal chairman David Carden said Dr Y had been impacted by "personal traumatic events".
