A nationwide shortage of bananas has seen some Tauranga grocers ration their supplies but fresh shipments are expected to hit shelves again today.
Shipping delays as well as New Zealand's access to supply was to blame for the shortage, said owner of My Greengrocer David Stuart.
He said local grocers had been on a slim supply of bananas for about a month.
Mr Stuart had been a grocer for 37 years and said he had never run out of bananas.
"I don't like letting people down. I've never had no bananas in my shop," Mr Stuart said.
