Being knocked out in the semifinals is one of the worst feelings in sport.
You are so close to making the final and cannot help day-dream about winning the title ... but that dream can be quickly shattered, as Tauranga Girls' College found out in the Marie Fry Trophy semifinals played at the Tauranga Hockey Centre at Blake Park yesterday.
Tauranga Girls' faced St Matthew's Collegiate in unforgiving mood as the team from Masterton won 3-0 after leading 1-0 at the break. The three field goals were spread out over 20, 36 and 50 minutes of play.
A 3-0 win over Gisborne Girls' High School was a highlight of the week for Tauranga Girls', who finish their week with the play-off for 3rd-4th against Hillcrest High School at 3.15pm today.
But there was much better news for Otumoetai College, who beat Hamilton's Hillcrest High 3-2 in the other Marie Fry Trophy semifinal that went right to the wire.
