Tauranga Girls' College avenged two regular season defeats to Mount Maunganui College to take the Harbourside Netball Collegiate Premier Division 1 title on Monday. In a thrilling final, scores were tied at the end of the game, meaning extra time was needed to decide the winner, with Girls' College getting the two goal gap needed to win 36-34.
Girls' College deputy principal, Leonie Summerville, who has been managing the team, said the second of the two losses had been particularly heavy, and was just two weeks ago. "The Mount all round have a very strong team and it could have gone either way, but you have to admire the grit of our girls to come back after what was quite a severe beating," she said.
The key play in extra time was a defensive interception that led to the winning goal.
