Judea Senior Reserve rugby player Stacey Walker has been stood down from all forms of the game until March 17 next year following an incident involving club players and supporters on July 4.
The penalty was imposed this week by the Bay of Plenty Rugby Union's Judicial Committee which said that, to an extent, the behaviour of the team and its supporters was incited by Walker's behaviour.
The committee said its aim to improve the behaviour of the club would be best led by its kaumatua, with the rugby union asked to offer assistance on what was and was not considered acceptable.
It warned more serious sanctions would be imposed if a similar incident came before the judiciary in the 2016 season.
Bay of Plenty Rugby is working to improve sideline behaviour to create a positive environment at games.
