Bay children splashed and snorkelled their way through the waves at Bay Wave yesterday.
With the windy weather still hammering the Bay, families were seen in their hundreds at the indoor swimming complex.
A Bay Wave spokesperson said they had three school holiday groups at the pool yesterday, with more to continue through the second week of the school holidays.
Papamoa College student Gemma Ray, 16, and her friends spent the day at Bay Wave frolicking in the automated waves and playing tag.
Gemma said she had also spent lots of time shopping at Bayfair, getting the essentials for summer, eating ice-creams from Copenhagen Cone and heading to the beach when the spring sun decided to come out.
A highlight for her school holidays had been nursing an abandoned lamb her father had found on Mount Maunganui, she said.
"We got her at a week old and we fed her with a pump bottle with a teat top filled with warm milk. We released her back up the Mount today but I will miss her, even though she would baa at 6am in the morning."
Gemma said she would continue to visit her fleeced friend.
