Well done to Tommy Kapai in his column, with his wish to promote the Tauranga tourist experience (Opinion, September 8).
The trouble with most of these type of suggestions is that the idea is the council should do the work and the long-suffering ratepayer pick up the tab.
Here is a heaven-sent opportunity for Tauranga iwi, now with substantial Treaty settlement money, to invest in local tourism.
If Tommy's vision is realised then iwi will reap the rewards for their investment.
The Strand is not the right place for the Waka but I'm sure that somewhere appropriate can be found.
Perhaps the camping ground on Mauao?
So Tommy sell your vision to local iwi and get the business rolling.
