National Party Candidate Todd Muller welcomes the announcement of the Government's trade and tourism policies he says will bring huge benefits to the Bay of Plenty region.
"We are a trading nation and opportunities to open up the rest of the world to our innovative products and services must be captured. Obviously any freeing up of trade globally will deliver huge opportunities for our Port and supporting businesses," he said.
"Our economy cannot survive without reaching global markets. We need to be truly ambitious and engage with the global economy to provide a great future for New Zealanders.
"We are very fortunate to have policies like these that will ensure we solidify and expand current trade and tourism opportunities plus continue to create new jobs.'
"National has a clear target of increasing the ratio of exports to GDP from 30 per cent to 40 per cent by 2025. That means doubling the value of our exports by 2025. This will lock-in New Zealand as a small, but successful part of the global economy."
