UPDATED 12.52pm: Hoards of hungry Bay of Plenty Polytechnic students appear to have succeeded in breaking a Guinness World Record today.
Polytechnic students, staff and visitor in town for re-orientation week gathere from midday in an attempt to break the world record for the most people to simutaneously dip their toast into their boiled eggs, in one place.
And it appears they have succeeded.
Student experience co-ordinator Kirsten Crossan said a total of 207 people took part.
The current world record involved 178 people.
To make the world record official, people taking part had to dip their toast into their egg and then take four bites.
Witnesses included Justices of the Peace, lawyers and Tauranga city councillors such as Deputy Mayor Kelvin Clout.
Ms Crossan said it would take about six to eight weeks before the new world record is made official.
Video evidence of each person, numbered, entering the event needs to be compiled and sent away with witness statements to the officials at Guinness.
Hospitality students cooked the eggs which were donated by Masterton company Henergy.
The event was part of a re-orientation campaign.
Opponents say the changes will make it harder to successfully bring pay equity claims.
