The defence has opened in the second week of a trial involving five Bay men and a woman charged with a range of methamphetamine-related charges.
On trial in the High Court at Rotorua are Karl Rodney Goldsbury, 39, of Maketu, Terence William Jones, who's in his 30s, Tracey Angela Farrow, 28, of Katikati, Ryan David Carroll, 34, of Judea, Mark Kimber, 49, of Hairini and Simon Christopher Whare, 40, of Te Puke.
When the trial began on July 7, the Crown prosecutor, Jasper Rhodes, outlined how Goldsbury and Jones had destroyed gear to make methamphetamine and set fire to the Katikati shed it was in when they saw armed police.
Goldsbury is charged with arson, supplying material to manufacture methamphetamine, conspiring to supply methamphetamine and possessing material for its manufacture. He's jointly charged with Whare with manufacturing meth and, with Kimber, supplying it.
In addition, he's charged with Carroll, Jones and Farrow with conspiring to manufacture methamphetamine and together with Jones attempting to pervert the course of justice.
