Residents from all over Tauranga came out to the first session of a public open day to find out about the new flyovers proposed for the Maunganui Rd Girven Rd intersection improvements.
NZTA project manager Greg Stephen said he was pleased with the turnout and expected about 300 people to come through during the two sessions.
Information about the project was on display and NZTA staff were on hand to answer questions.
Visitors were encouraged to post feedback on a wall for consideration.
Residents spoken to by the Bay of Plenty Times were pleased the intersection would be improved but concerned the plan still left only one way in and out of Matapihi.
