The letter they all received failed to inform them the Information Centre was part of the preferred tenancy, as was the allowance for exhibition space.
Adding further disappointment was to find out via the Bay of Plenty Times that council had changed its mind and had agreed the Katikati Heritage Museum would take up occupancy in the interim, once the building had been earthquake strengthened.
The board accepts council has a right to grant occupancy to whoever it sees fit, but when it doesn't communicate its decisions to those it had advised to make a submission, without an explanation or apology, that is disappointing.
Jacqui said the board was not opposed to the museum moving into the fire station building, but they were unhappy with the lack of consultation.
The Katch Katikati Board had planned to turn the fire station into an arty, fun place, with music, flags and umbrellas outside and bikes to hire. It was an opportunity to tell the story of NZ Mural Town.
The visitor experience to the Information Centre would have been enhanced with a better facility.
Jacqui believes that as long as the Information Centre stays where it is and how it is, it does not invite people to where they are, nor does it wow them.
"We have the unique Haiku Pathway, which is the only one in the southern hemisphere. We have the murals, we have the Kaimai walks, but at the moment we are stifling visitors to Katikati from an information point of view.
"We need to showcase what we've got, which is why I am disappointed that we are not able to do that at this stage for the community.
"It has taken a long time for Katch Katikati to get recognition in the community," said Eris.
"The Katch Katikati Board consists of business and community-minded people. Jacqui and Kristin are employed by Katch Katikati - not the council."
In an effort to continue to provide good service to the community, the board will look at additional funding streams to try to promote Katikati at a level it deserves.
The Katch Katikati office will remain where it is and will continue to provide the excellent service that it does to the retailers, business people, the community sector and visitors to our town.
