A man has been arrested following a wide spread appeal from police asking for public help in tracking down a man believed to be responsible for a sexual abduction in Mount Maunganui.
Security footage of a man and a vehicle were circulated publicly yesterday. Meanwhile police continued with a number of inquiries which resulted in an individual being nominated as a possible suspect.
This morning a 35-year-old man from New Plymouth was arrested at a motel in Mount Maunganui. The incident happened in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The man has been charged with abducting a woman for sex and will appear at Tauranga District Court tomorrow.
Police issued a statement expressing thanks to the public and media for their assistance with the appeal.
