"I've seen the affect abuse can have on children. We hear about the kids that have been killed but not those that have life long damage."
She is also involved in a programme that provides teddy bears for children who have been severely abused and have to go through forensic testing with police and Child, Youth and Family.
She said there were about 45 children per month, on average, who went through that testing.
As well as raising awareness, Ms Brown wants a focus on the current laws surrounding abusers.
"I don't think the sentances are harsh enough," she said, "there is no justification for child abuse."
