Tauranga siblings Felicity and Tessa Whale were wowing the crowd with their extraordinary dexterity during the Mount Mainstreet/Bay News Busking Festival yesterday.
The sisters, who won the open section of the competition, learned to play their Paraguayan-made harps during a year-long trip to the country a couple of years ago. They were taught by renowned harpist Papi Galan, who also made the harps using timber from his backyard.
Tessa said they also played several other instruments and were in bands at Tauranga Girls' College.
This year 56 buskers were vying for honours, 29 in the junior section and 27 in the open section.
Mount Mainstreet manager Leanne Brown said she was thrilled with the number, quality and variety of buskers, and also with the crowd turnout and response.
