Tauranga City Council drug tests

None of the councils in the Western Bay of Plenty carry out random drug testing on staff.

Tauranga City Council's acting communications manager Frank Begley said its practice was based on post-incident testing where it appeared drugs or alcohol were a reasonable cause of the incident.

He said council contractors must at least meet the council's drug and alcohol policy, which in practice meant there may be some random testing, typically among engineering and construction staff.
