The number of boy racer offences in Bay of Plenty has dropped from 321 in 2009 to 129 in 2012.
"In 2009 National introduced new laws to crack down on illegal street racing and send a strong message to boy racers that their dangerous behaviour would not be tolerated," Tauranga MP Simon Bridges said.
"They should not be allowed to terrorise communities and endanger the lives of themselves and others.
"So I am heartened to see that illegal street racing offences have fallen by 35 per cent nationally since 2009, from 2738 in 2009 to 1759 in 2012.
"We are seeing a real and measurable drop in offences and repeat offenders. And most importantly, we are seeing less harm to our youth on the roads.
