UPDATED 8.27am: Two people have been freed from a car which rolled at a Tauranga crash hotspot.

The crash, which happened at the junction of 11th Ave and Waihi Rd about 8.05am today, is understood to have involved a car running into the rear of a tractor before rolling on to its side.

Firefighters cut the car's roof in effort to remove the two women, who were not seriously injured but were taken to Tauranga Hospital as a precaution.

Both lanes of the highway have been closed as emergency services work to clear the scene. Traffic is being diverted.

EARLIER 08.12am: A car has rolled on 11th Avenue. Emergency services on their way to accident on 11th Avenue. More soon...
