While most people are lazing by the beach over summer, Gaeleen Scholes-Daysh is off to complete a 'bucket list' with a difference.
Together with her friend, Patrina Lawes from Cambridge, the pair is heading off on a trip to the South Island to raise funds for the Cancer Society.
With pink buckets in hand, their journey will start on January 23 and they plan to get to Stewart Island on just $100.
"We want as much money as possible to go toward breast cancer support and research.
"We have seen some of our colleagues and members of our families battling against breast cancer, so we felt it was a worthy cause."
The $100 will go on bus travel, while the rest of the trip is being funded through various fundraising schemes, donations and help from small businesses and friends along the way.
The women have already been well supported with their fundraising efforts, staging barbecues and social gatherings.
Several items donated by local businesses are also being raffled off prior to Christmas.
On their South Island fundraising trip they will be selling pink ribbon merchandise, handing out information about breast cancer and joining events along the way.
Mrs Scholes-Daysh has also set a personal fundraising target.
"I'm planning to drop some weight along the way - so I'm being sponsored $1 for every kilo I can lose."
