A Rotorua man was allegedly hit on the head, tied up and gagged at his Glenholme house after allowing two young women inside.
It is believed the two women, thought to be in their 20s, assaulted the man yesterday afternoon with a frying pan before stealing his car, which was loaded up with hundreds of dollars worth of his possessions.
Holland St resident Tina Hesketh was alerted after she heard car doors slamming outside the man's house. She walked outside to check what was happening when the man, who had freed himself, ran to her and asked her to call police.
"His face was covered in blood. [He] said he knew one of them and let them in. Then they gagged him and tied him up."
She understood they hit him on the head with a frying pan before robbing him.
"They filled his car up with his stuff -TV, phone, laptop, all that kind of thing."
She thought the stolen car was a white Toyota Prado 4WD.
Police were talking to the man at the property at about 2pm yesterday.
The man, believed to be in his 40s or 50s, had a bloodied forehead from an open wound.
The St John ambulance arrived shortly after and treated him but left about 20 minutes later. The man was understood to be in a stable condition.
The Rotorua police CIB would not comment except to say they were investigating the incident.
