Firefighters were called to battle a scrub fire on the side of a coastal walkway in Greerton.
Greerton fire service senior station officer Steve Wright said about 100 square metres of scrub next to the walkway between Fraser Cove and Yatton Park was alight when they arrived about 6.30pm last night.
Three fire trucks attended the fire which took about 45 minutes to extinguish, Mr Wright said.
The westerly wind kept the fire away from nearby houses, he said.
"It's just luck the wind was blowing that way. If it had have been an easterly we would have needed another couple of trucks and eight more firefighters.
"The strong winds are just drying out the scrub and it's quite high risk at the moment even though it's still wet,'' he said.
Local resident Shona Dellow was out in her yard when she heard the fire and called the fire brigade.
"I just heard crackling down on the path so I ran down the path and checked it out first,'' she said.
"It just took off because it was so dry. It was all the tea tree and the toi toi.''
