A single person has won the $27 million Big Wednesday Lotto draw.

NZ Lotteries has confirmed a single person has won the prize.

Lotteries Commission spokeswoman Karen Jones spoke to the winner last night.

"It was at that time they found out they had the winning ticket and obviously they were still in shock," she told the Bay of Plenty Times.

"They have the winning ticket but the prize is yet to be officially claimed.''

"They're still working out their options because they can claim it at any store or come down to Wellington.''

Mrs Jones said the prize wouldn't get paid to the winner until the winning ticket was in Wellington.

She said the winner had asked the Lotteries Commission not to release any details about them.

"I can't tell you if they're male or female, or if they're from Tauranga but I can tell you it's one person.''

Mrs Jones said this was the third biggest prize a single person had won in NZ Lotteries' history.

The winning ticket was bought at AJ's Lotto on Devonport Rd.

The luxury prizes include $675,000 cash towards a bach, $50,000 towards luxury travel, a $50,000 Platinum VISA card, an Audi Q7, a Rayglass 2200 Boat and a Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4.
