Wet weather and poor visibility has Western Bay of Plenty police on tenterhooks and they are asking for drivers to take extra care in the rain.
Acting Senior Sergeant Mark Holmes of the Western Bay of Plenty road policing unit said that road conditions and visibility could change very quickly.
Mr Holmes said that visibility on State Highway 29 over the Kaimai Ranges was poor due to low cloud and rain.
Visibility and road surface conditions on other highways in and around the Western Bay of Plenty were also affected due to the current weather, he said.
"Drivers need to reduce their speed, increase their following distances and drive with headlights on."
Mr Holmes urged all drivers to take extreme care as the risk of losing control in the wet conditions was high.
