Gas leak at Sulphur Point

The gas leak that brought the only access to Sulphur Point to a standstill this morning has been dealt with.

Traffic is now allowed through Mirrielees Rd after police blocked it off from about 11.30am after a gas leak, believed to have been caused by contractors.

Police had also blocked the intersection with Marsh Rd and the Sulphur Point off ramp from the expressway.

Many people had stopped to wait on the side of the road to be let through.

Some businesses were evacuated.

A police statement said the repairs to the ruptured gas pipe were initially expected to take over an hour and a half but all access points were open to traffic now.
