Auckland has been dropped off the World Series triathlon calendar.
The city has hosted a round of the premier multisport circuit for five years but part of the blame for the loss of the event has been placed on New Zealand's top triathletes.
Triathlon New Zealand boss Craig Waugh said while it was not the sole reason for New Zealand losing its place, the failure of the country's elite athletes inspiring the public had not helped their case.
Waugh said New Zealand would work hard to get Auckland back on the calendar in the future.
In its eighth season, the WTS has at least eight stops, with two cities - Leeds in the UK and Cozumel, Mexico - on the programme for the first time.
