Waitemata Police are warning residents of re-emerging phone scams from callers claiming to be from the 'Government Grants Department' and Inland Revenue.
Residents are told they have been awarded large sums of money, but must first hand over their bank account details and deposit an admin fee through Western Union.
These types of scams are not new, and sadly, members of the community can still become a victim of their seemingly authentic tactics, Sergeant Tony Bruce says.
"Despite the calls sounding genuine, residents should be wary of any unknown callers who ask for money or credit card details. Government departments will never ask for credit card details in this manner."
"Never give your details to unverified callers and if you are concerned about the authenticity of a caller, it is best to hang up and call the organisation back on an official phone number usually found on their website."
