The cultural clash that had such success in The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel makes another appearance, this time in rural France.
The Hundred Foot Journey is a poignant and ultimately heart-warming story about an Indian family trying a new beginning after the death of their mother/wife.
The Kadam family has left Mumbai behind and found a fresh start in a small village in the south of France.
It finds an abandoned restaurant and sees only good times ahead.
But, across the road, is a highly rated traditional French restaurant with an exclusive clientele.
That restaurant's owner, Madame Mallory (Oscar-winner Helen Mirren), does not want a curry house with its music and accompanying smells anywhere near her establishment.
And so the war between Madame Mallory and Papa (legendary Indian actor Om Puri) begins. In the centre of it all is Papa's son, Hassan (Manish Dayal), who cooks with his heart and his head.
His boundless talent soon attracts the attention of Madame Mallory, who wants to teach him the culinary ways of the French.
It is here that the gastronomic torture begins for us poor viewers.
Before our eyes the most magnificent food is prepared and consumed in the finest French traditions.
Hassan's journey to Paris and more Michelin glory only serves to remind him of what he left behind in the small French village.
For those who enjoyed their Chocolat (2000) experience and relished their Exotic Marigold (2011) holiday, the time has come to go on another journey of the imagination and senses.
