Eight people were rescued from a house fire in Auckland's suburb of Glen Eden this morning.

The fire was one of two to strike overnight.

Northern fire communications shift manager Michelle Ruru said the house fire on West Coast Rd was first reported at 5.19am.

"It was well involved with fire when the fire service arrived.''

Fire fighters were told there were people inside the burning house and eight people were found and assessed by an ambulance at the scene.

Approximately 16 fire trucks responded to the fire, Ms Ruru said.

"At the moment they're still using multiple hoses - high pressure delivery and low pressure delivery.''

Emergency services were still at the property.

There are no reported injuries but several people were being treated for smoke inhalation.

West Coast Road is cordoned off at Shaw Road, and motorists who normally travel along the road are advised to find an alternative route for the next few hours.

A rubbish fire was also discovered in Glen Eden early this morning - at 3.47am on Waikumete Rd.
