The first Wanganui representative selection for the 2016-17 season will play a warmup match with Wellington's Naenae team at the Whanganui High School grounds today.
While the full representative squad will not be chosen yet with several players still away at university, the Select XI for today's game contains some of last year's Hawke Cup regulars and other club players familiar on the scene.
After missing most of last summer with injury, veteran batsman Mark Fraser will play, while allrounder Nick Harding comes back to cricket after his hamstring ruined the end of an excellent rugby season which could have seen him represent Wanganui senior teams in both codes in the same calender year.
Warren Farr will be overseeing the team currently, with confirmation of the fulltime Wanganui coach likely to be made soon.
A full representative squad will be named next week and play another warm-up game with Taranaki on October 9.
