Wanganui cricketer Ben Smith reunites with his beloved Central Stags when he joins the wider training squad this weekend after breaking his foot in January.
Smith had been in great one-day touch with scores of 74 and 75 in two games before breaking his foot batting against Auckland in the second week of January. He missed the final few games of the Ford Trophy one-day competition, which was won by the Stags.
Smith rejoins the team this weekend as they continue their quest to add the Plunket Shield to the Central Districts trophy cabinet. They sit fourth after six Plunket Shield matches played. There are four matches of the competition to play, including this weekend against Wellington in New Plymouth.
Smith is aiming to be available for the last three Plunket Shield matches.
"I'm back with the squad training this weekend although I won't be playing. My foot is feeling okay, but I'm meant to keep off it from time to time," Smith said yesterday.
