Manawatu-Wanganui's good recovery in the last two rounds of the 2017 Toro Interprovincial women's tournament is still only good enough for a playoff for ninth at Sherwood Golf Club on Friday morning.

After losses to host team Northland, the undefeated Auckland and then Wellington, finally Manawatu-Wanganui picked up a 4.5-0.5 win over Aorangi on Wednesday afternoon, including Wanganui Golf Club's Tara Raj defeating Lynda Brown 4/3.

They followed up Thursday morning with a 3-2 win over Taranaki, with Raj beating Joanne McDonald 2/1.

That put Manawatu-Wanganui into the playoff for ninth with Hawkes Bay-Poverty Bay.

In the men's Toro Interprovincial at Mangawhai Golf Club, Manawatu-Wanganui lost their Round 3 matchup 3-2 on Wednesday morning, with Castlecliff Golf Club's Hayden Ring beaten 2up by Tyler Wood.

They were then beaten 4-1 by Northland that afternoon, with Ring losing to Alex Neely 5/4, but came back strong against major contender Wellington on Thursday morning with a 2.5-2.5 draw, including Ring beating Josef Edge 4/2.

Manawatu Wanganui were scheduled to face Tasman on Thursday afternoon, then Auckland in the morning.
