Wanganui fours player Loralie Hawkes takes her bowl in the early afternoon women's game against Taranaki at Laird Park Bowling Club.
The Wanganui Women's team regained the inter-centre representative title they narrowly lost on countback last year with a strong performance at the Laird Park Bowling Club on Saturday.
It was representative quadrangular time again as visiting Senior and Under 8 years development squads from Taranaki, Manawatu and for the second time Wairarapa made the annual pilgrimage to Whanganui.
Senior competition consists of 10 player squads playing singles (two players), pairs (two teams) and four's competition, while the Under 8 teams have seven players.
The men's matches were at the Aramaho Bowling Club, where they contested the Arnott Shield.
Men's manager Mike Morgan said games were won or lost by the smallest of margins, with several games coming down to the last bowl.
"The points were close until the last round when the Taranaki team won four of the five games to pip Manawatu."
For the Duckett Trophy in the Under 8's, Taranaki made it a double, just narrowly seeing off Wanganui by one victory, while defending champions Manawatu were third.
In the Senior Women's competition, Wanganui were eager to win back the trophy they lost last year to Manawatu on points differential.
Under new coach/selectors Pauline and Desmond Pirere, they proved too strong with only one loss in the first two rounds and ultimately came home four points clear of Manawatu, with Taranaki right behind them in third.
It was a different story in a very competitive Under 8's tournament, where Taranaki won on a points differential from Manawatu, with Wanganui a point back in third, ahead of defending champions Wairarapa.
The Wanganui Senior teams were:
Men - Singles: Cary Pinker and Garry Petersen; Pairs: Ian Porteous, Gavin Scrivener and Ray Park, Alan Dickson; Fours: Bruce Winterburn, Kevin Coombe, Tony McRae, Warrick Pinker.
Women - Singles: Dianne Patterson and Lesley Bourke; Pairs: Jill Rohloff, Gayleen Tauri and Maria Klitscher, Debbie Wildermoth; Fours: Elizabeth Anderson, Loralie Hawkes, Joan Raymond, Sue Masters.
