There were 20 greyhounds lined up in Whanganui yesterday but there was no racetrack in sight.
Most of the dogs are former racers or racing dogs getting ready to retire and become pets.
The dogs, their owners, and a number of canine supporters were taking a walk along the riverside as part of an international campaign.
The Great Global Greyhound Walk was taking place at waterfronts, pathways and parks around New Zealand and the world to help promote the breed as pets.
The walk is an annual international event and this year's theme, Colours of the World, highlights greyhounds' colourful personalities and their ability to make wonderful pets.
