Marton School children working on anniversary mural, Video by Stuart Munro

Marton School has seen a lot of change in its 150 year history and the whole community will celebrate with a gala on October 22.

Meanwhile, a group of mural artists are working against the clock (and the rain) to complete an artwork that depicts essential elements of the school's history.

Led by mural designer Julie Oliver, some of the team members have been working through the school holidays to complete the work on time for the anniversary.

"I have been teaching them painting techniques and how to care for their brushes while they work," said Ms Oliver.

The school has been a high school and intermediate as well as a military academy during its life time and the timeline on the mural will lead the observer from the original school logo to the current one which will be a stainless steel structure mounted on the wall.
