The Waitotara Hotel annual fishing contest is on this weekend.
The competition starts at 5am Saturday and finishes 2pm Sunday with the weigh in at the hotel at 3pm. More than $700 is available in cash prizes plus there are mystery prizes.
Hotel spokeswoman Mary Martin said this is thesixth year they have run the contest and last year they had "well in excess of 100 entries".
"It's filling up a bit fast now. We will take entries at the hotel and dairy up to 8pm on Friday."
There is a boat, beach and junior section in the contest. Entry costs $10 a rod. She said the contest was "very well supported" and sponsors included the Waitotara Hotel, Lyle and Sindy Hooper, Wayne and Christine Collins and Phil Sandford, Peter Johnson and Knick Knacks, Liquorland, Michael Mancer, Hunting and Fishing, Shirley and Steve Barrow and Tony Wilson Livestock and Waikaramihi Marae.
