A couple have admitted taking boxing gear from the martial arts centre where they were trainers.
Shaun William Newell-O'Connor, 27, and Arianna Macdonald, 26, appeared in the Whanganui District Court on Tuesday and pleaded guilty to charges of theft after stealing various pieces of equipment from the Wanganui Martial Arts Centre.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Stephen Butler said the pair, who are domestic partners, were kick-box trainers and so had access to the centre. Between February 1 and August 25, the defendants removed a "variety of training equipment".
Mr Butler said the value of the stolen equipment had still to be confirmed but was estimated to be thousands of dollars.
The gear was then taken to Cash Converters, where some of it had since been recovered.
