Residents affected by the weekend's power cuts are calling for compensation from lines company Powerco.
Just before 6am on Sunday a car slammed into a power pole on the corner of Springvale and Caversham Rds, cutting power to about 1400 customers.
Due to a power surge after the crash, hundreds of residents in the area have been left with destroyed or damaged electrical appliances, with ovens, microwaves, heat pumps etc. now out of action.
Paul Jennings, who lives in the Mosston area, asked Powerco about compensation after he discovered he would have to pay $1250 in excess before his insurance company would pay out.
A new gas heater and his washing machine are no longer working, and the circuit board on the hot water cylinder was blown.
