Gonville Kindergarten had a visit from mayor Annette Main on Monday to present children with new books.
The books were provided by the Duffy Books in Homes Foundation, the charity founded by writer Alan Duff.
Each of the 40 children who attend the kindergarten received two books each.
Vicky Ye, 4, and her sister Emily, 3, were happy to get a Dora the Explorer book each while Tumanako Pehi, 3, loved his Thomas the Tank Engine book and Bella-Gray Churton, 4, enjoyed Baa! Moo! What Will We Do?
Kindergarten manager Katie Fry said it was very good of the mayor to make time to come and present the books.
