The very essence of speed machines hits the streets in Wanganui Saturday when the Wanganui Road Rodders stage the 28th annual street drags.
The drags on Taupo Quay will feature cars, motorcycles and imports and entry levels are well up on last year.
Along with a variety of mean machines, Grant Rivers and son Adrian will have their dragsters tearing up the quarter mile. The cars are too powerful to go full throttle along Taupo Quay, but they'll certainly smoke up the tyres for the crowd. Other Wanganui Road Rodders will be running their cars including Dallas Rowan in his junior dragster division, Rhys O'Mahoney in his T-Bucket and Aaron Jackson's very quick Torana. At last year's street drags, Jackson returned the quickest time over the quarter mile of 6.673 seconds.
Dean Scott's another to watch in his modified Holden ute along with other local drivers as well as cars from Wellington, Taupo and Rotorua.
The entertainment starts at 10am and finishes mid-afternoon.
