Pete and Andy Walker scrubbed up well for Wednesday night's finale of The Block.

Pete and Andy Walker scrubbed up well for Wednesday night's finale of The Block.

Bulls brothers Pete and Andy Walker of TV3's The Block were still in Auckland yesterday, exhausted from the finals of the hugely popular DIY TV show - and the party that followed.

The final auction of the four houses - held live on Wednesday night and watched by a massive TV audience - saw the wise-cracking brothers take home a new car and $27,000.

Andy said yesterday they were keen to get back to the family farm in Bulls, get some sleep, enjoy the quiet - and, most of all, get away from the madness of Auckland.

"It's been really good, but we're really glad it's all over," he said. "It was hard work - we're used to hard work, but this was just different, you know, being on TV, the publicity and stuff."

It was a very big "maybe" as to whether they'd do something like The Block again.

"It's been a great experience, though ... but, you know, no ... not in any hurry to do it again."

The laidback brothers' new-found celebrity status saw them win the People's Choice Award and a brand new Mazda 6 as the prize.

"Yeah, we were pretty pleased.

"It's quite something to be the choice of the people, and we feel really stoked," Andy said.

"It's a massively good thing to know that everyone liked us so much," he added. From the auction of their house - selling for $952,500 - the brothers made a profit of $27,000 which amazed and disappointed them at the same time. "We thought it might have been a bit more."

Wednesday night celebrations were at the Rendezvous Grand Hotel in Auckland and went well into the wee hours, Andy said.

"There was a lot of celebrating to do, and we're pretty tired today."

The brothers have already been approached for other television work, but nothing is confirmed yet, Andy said.

Their mum, Carol, said it had been weeks of great entertainment - and a sense of pride and awe watching her boys.

"We'll miss the show, but enough is enough ... my boys are just wonderful." She said the natural banter of Pete and Andy on the show is no different to how they always are.

"It's the whole family humour thing, really.

"But those two are very close ... always have been, and their banter has never stopped.

"They are funny, my boys, they really are."
