The weather, the venue, the people and especially the blooms all contributed to one of the best Wanganui Horticultural Society summer shows in a long time.
Wayne Hughes, one of the organisers of Saturday's event, said the move to the Taupo Quay space had worked "wonderfully".
"It's the second time we've used this venue, and it's been great," Mr Hughes said.
He said the fine weather and the closeness to the riverside markets played a part in drawing a very big crowd through the exhibition throughout Saturday afternoon.
"We saw some of the best dahlias exhibited in a long time. There were some exceptional blooms and the gladioli were brilliant." He said another pleasing aspect was the interest shown by the visitors.
"We got some great comments and a lot of people were keen to ask about the flowers."
Waikanae grower Phil Bothamley took out the champion bloom trophy in the dahlia section while a vase of gladiolus, entered by Mr Hughes, was judged champion of champions in that section.
