Residents in the tiny Samoan village of Satitoa have come through Cyclone Evan relatively unscathed.
Cyclone Evan hit Samoa last week, causing widespread damage throughout the small Pacific nation. Four people were killed, 10 are still missing and 200 people were injured.
Cyclone Evan also caused damage in Fiji.
Wanganui and Satitoa formed a special bond after the village was all but destroyed in the 2009 tsunami. The Wanganui District Council sent a team of people to help with rebuilding and cleaning up, and since then several Wanganui teams have been to Satitoa to assist with re-establishing the village.
Pastor Iliafi Esera of Faith City Church in Wanganui, who is from Satitoa, had not been able to contact his relatives there for a week. But yesterday he told the Wanganui Chronicle he had heard that the village survived the cyclone in reasonable shape.
